About Wood Buffalo Cycling Club
WELCOME TO WOOD BUFFALO CYCLING CLUB
Based in Fort McMurray Alberta, the Wood Buffalo Cycling Club is the cities only cycling club. It was created in the fall of 2012 to bring together all facets of cycling to have a larger voice in developing the sport in Fort McMurray. Our members have a passion for all things related to cycling including cyclo-cross, road racing, ultra rides, mountain biking, urban cycling and triathlons from all skill levels of riders. Road Cyclists have the opportunity to participate each Wednesday in a variety of races for all levels of riders. These include Time Trials, Hillclimbs, Mass-Start races, Australian Pursuits, and Road Races for all age categories. Social club rides are scheduled each Sunday where all new riders and club members of all skill levels are welcome from April through September. Open social rides are enjoyed by all ages and allow cyclists to share their cycling experiences with others. On August 24, 2014 the club will be hosting the 2014 Provincial Road Cycling Championship on the roads of Timberlea.
Mountain Bike Cyclists have the opportunity to participate each Tuesday in a variety of rides for all levels of riders. These include cross country and downhill/ freeride. There are many mountain bike trails throughout the Fort McMurray area for all riding styles and levels of experience. Wood Buffalo Cycling Club is committed to working with the Municipality of Wood Buffalo and the provincial government to develop a mountain bike parks in Fort McMurray to provide a safe, regulated and well maintained place for bikers of all styles and ages to ride.
The Wood Buffalo Cycling Club also provides the Trailblazers training course each summer for kids that are interested in learning mountain biking fundamentals. This is a great opportunity for kids to learn the skills they need to progress their riding in a safe and supportive environment. We also offer bike maintenance, learn-to-ride, and learn-to-race seminars. These instructional sessions provide information on technical racing, general riding tips, and proper bike fit by our fully-qualified members. During the winter months, the club offers indoor spin sessions.
